Facebook Conversions API
Setting up the Facebook Conversions API in an AdsQuiz quiz
After connecting the Facebook Pixel, the next step is setting up the Facebook Conversions API. This article explains how the two tools differ and how to connect the Conversions API to an AdsQuiz quiz.
How the Facebook Pixel differs from the Conversions API
There are two main ways to track user actions and send data to Meta – and it's important to understand the difference.
Facebook Pixel sends events through the user's browser. When a visitor opens the quiz page, moves between questions or submits the form, the browser sends that information to Meta. It's easy to set up but has limitations:
- ad blockers can block events from being sent
- browser privacy restrictions – especially in Safari and Firefox
- iOS restrictions after Apple's privacy policy update
- technical failures on the browser side
As a result, some events may not reach Meta, and your ad campaigns get incomplete data for optimisation.
Facebook Conversions API works differently – events are sent directly from the server to Meta, bypassing the user's browser. This means ad blockers and browser restrictions don't affect data transfer, and conversion tracking becomes much more accurate.
Which one to use: You can use the Conversions API (CAPI) as a more reliable way to send data, since it sends events directly from the server and depends less on browser restrictions.
At the same time, you can also use the Facebook Pixel for basic event tracking on the website – a simpler setup that doesn't require a server integration.
⚙️ How to connect the Facebook Conversions API to an AdsQuiz quiz
Step 1. Open the integration settings
Go to: Quiz settings → Integrations → Facebook Conversions API.
You need to provide two parameters:
- Pixel ID – the pixel identifier
- Access Token – the access token
Step 2. Find the Pixel ID
Open Meta Events Manager and choose the pixel you need. The pixel ID is shown at the top of the page – copy it and paste it into the Pixel ID field in the AdsQuiz integration settings.
⚠️ Important: copy only the numeric ID – not the whole pixel code.
Step 3. Get the Access Token
In Meta Events Manager, open the pixel and go to Settings → Conversions API. Click «Generate Access Token». After it's generated, copy the token and paste it into the Access Token field in the AdsQuiz integration settings.
⚠️ Important: save the token right after generating it – Meta shows it only once. If the token is lost, you'll need to generate a new one.
Step 4. Save the settings
Click «Save». Once saved, the integration becomes active and events start being sent to Meta through the Conversions API.
🔍 How to check that the Conversions API works
After connecting, check that events are arriving:
Go to the «Overview» section in Events Manager Open Meta Events Manager → Overview. It shows all received events and their sources – browser or server. Make sure events appear marked «Server» or «Browser & Server».
❓ Frequently asked questions
Do I need the Conversions API if I already have the Facebook Pixel? It's not required, but recommended. The Pixel can lose some events because of ad blockers and browser restrictions. The Conversions API sends data through the server and makes up for these losses.
Are the events sent by the Conversions API different from pixel events? Yes, the Conversions API sends these events:
- capi_adsquiz_Start – visit to the start page;
- capi_adsquiz_Question-N – visit to step N (the step number is inserted dynamically);
- capi_adsquiz_OpenContactPage – visit to the contacts page;
- capi_adsquiz_Lead – successful submission of the form with contact details;
- capi_adsquiz_ThankYou – visit to the final page.
